About us

MoniRisk is developed by the research Centre for Marine Technology and Ocean Engineering (CENTEC) of Instituto Superior Técnico.

The research team consists of 5 members: 2 senior researchers with experience in coordinating and participating in research projects, and 3 researchers that integrate the research team on a full-time basis.

MoniRisk develops an integrated system for traffic monitoring and maritime risk assessment to provide a more rational approach to maritime operations monitoring, planning, safety, and protection. This integrated system prototype will be tested with real-time AIS/radar fused data from the Portuguese coastal Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) control center (CCTMC) of the DGRM (Direcção Geral de Recursos Naturais, Segurança e Serviços Marítimos).

MoniRisk falls under the priority lines “Safe and sustainable transport”, “Intelligent maritime transport” and “ICT applied to the sea” of the National Strategy for Smart Specialization and under the line “Integrated information management systems for the compilation of the maritime picture”, which is a strategic priority at the regional level of Lisbon of the domain “Mobility and Transport”.
